TARA (STAR, or DROLMA in TIBETAN ), goddess of protection and compassion, is the primary female deity in the Tibetan Buddhist Pantheon, and one of then most worshipped deities in Tibet. She is saluted in this mantra as the noble, exalted liberator, and as the swift and glorious liberator, she is the deity who grants success by removing obsatcles and fulfilling good intentions.
White Tara, is the guardian and deliverer of peace, longevity, and protection. White Tara is often referred to as the Mother of all the BUddhas. She represents the motherly aspects of compassion. Her white color indicates purity, but also indicates that she is Truth, complete and undifferentiated. She is also the special goddess who helps her devotees overcome obstacles, particulary impediments to practice of religion. She has seven eyes, the two usual eyes, plus an eye in the centre of her forehead and eyes in each of her hands and feet. They thus symbolize the vigilance of her compassion.
Her mantra "OM TARE TUTTARE TURE MAMA AYUH PUNYA JNANA PUSTIM KURU SVAHA" is often chanted to overcome obstacles and help one possess the qulaities of longlife, merit, wisdom, wealth and happiness.
