MANJUSHREE, also written Manjushri, is the bodhisattva of keen awarness in Buddhism. A disciple of the histroical Buddha Shakyamuni, she represents wisdom, intellgence and realisation, She is one of the most popular Bodhisattvas following Avalokiteshvara.
Manjushree is one of the Eight Wisdom Bodhisattvas and one of the Japanese Thirteen Buddhas. In Tibetan Buddhism she sometimes is depicted in a trinity with Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapani. Within Tibetan Buddhism, Manjushree is a tantric meditational deity or yidam, and is considered a fully englightened Buddha.
According to legends, Manjushree is the founder of the Nepalese Civilization. One day, she intuited that there was a big blue flame on a lotus in a huge lake in Nepal. She went there to try and offer worship at the flame, but couldn't get close enough because of the vast expanse of water. So, She used her sword to cut through one of the hills, so the water in the lake drained in that direction. The dry valley that she t arved out is now referred to as the "kathmandu Valley".
Chanting the Manjushree Mantra "Om Ah Ra Pa Tsa Na Dhih" is believed to enhance wisdom and imporve one's skills in debating.memory, writing, explaining etc. "Dinh" is the seed syllable of the mantra and is chanted with greater emphasis.
