This book presents two practical and compelling works related to a visualization and mantra practice of Padmasambhava. This practice is based on the most important revelation of the renowned nineteenth century terton Chokgyur Lingpa, Accomplishing the Guru's Mind: Dispeller of All Obstacles.
The first of the two commentaries, Divine Flower, composed by Shechen Gyaltsap Pema Namgyal (1871-1926), provides a detailed commentary of Accomplishing the Guru's Mind as a whole, treating both the preliminaries and the main part of the practice. In contrast, the second text, Brilliant Light, composed by Karma Rinchen Dargye (b.1835), focuses on just one emanation of Padmasambhava, namely Guru Vadisimha (or Lama Mawey Senge, as he was known in Tibet). Although this text is concerned with a particular wisdom aspect of Padmasambhava, most of its explanations and instructions are equally applicable to other practice manuals from Accomplishing the Guru's Mind and also the practice of the development stage as a whole. As such, the two texts complement each other well and together provide a good introduction to the practices associated with this popular cycle of treasure teachings.
These writings give an introduction to the preliminary trainings, elucidation of the visualization and mantra aspects of the practice, and step-by-step instructions on the visualized image, skillfully guiding the reader into tantric practice - common to all of Tibetan Buddhism.
The fourth Shechen Gyaltsap Rinpoche spent most of his life in retreat and was one of the main teachers of the late Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Rinchen Dargye was a prolific writer on all aspects of tantric thought and practice.
"These two authentic manuals give the reader practical understanding of Mahayoga, the foundation of the inner tantras, in all its incredible depth. They are a true treasury of powerful tools to transform the habitual ways of our human condition into the path of enlightenment." Erik Pema Kunsang, translator.
